Samsung to Open R&D Center in Bangladesh in Early 2011

Samsung plans to set up a new software R&D center in Bangladesh, according to an August 5, 2010 report by The Korea Times. It is reported that Samsung's move is aimed at utilizing the local skilled workers and expanding the company's market share in the country. The new facility in Bangladesh is expected to be Samsung's 12th R&D center around the world and is projected to start operation in early 2011.

Bangladesh has a population of around 140 million. It is estimated that there are 40 million mobile phone users in the country, and monthly mobile phone sales arrived at approximately US$1 million, according to the Korea Times report.
